On July 22, California Lions Friends in Sight will again take their vision screening services to San Diego for the annual “Stand Down” for homeless veterans. What a privilege it is for our volunteers, many from the Inland Empire, to meet and provide for these heroes who so deservingly need our help.
Last year we provided nearly 350 screenings and recycled eyeglasses. Many had never worn prescription eyeglasses and several were diagnosed with cataracts, glaucoma, and other vision threatening disease.
The Stand Down event brings more than 2,000 homeless veterans to a tent city for food, overnight shelter, medical services, counseling, legal assistance, job training, rehabilitation, and volunteer optometrists working alongside the California Lions Friends in Sight team.
